An Australian Engineer of Prussian-Jewish heritage, Sir John Monash fought in the First World War firstly at Gallipoli and then in France on the Western Front. His reputation for being organised, co-ordinated and direct saw him gain a high reputation and he was promoted to the highest level to , Commander, Australian Corps, British Expeditionary Force, Western Front.
